Macro Data Impacting Asia 14 -18 Dec

12 Dec

Last full trading week before Christmas.
Brexit talks extended, with no new deadline, expect the pound to strengthen on the news. +VE for HSBC and Standard Chartered but slightly -VE for FTSE and Resources.

Covid back in focus as Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline say their vaccines will be delayed. Also a new US stimulus deal is seemingly no closer now than it was last week. Trump could still surprise, although admitting he lost the election is still unlikely.

The other key focus this week will Central Bank meetings; with the FOMC, BoE, BoJ and and even the Taiwanese in on the act.

For Asia,From China we have House Prices, Retail Sales, Unemployment Fixed Asset Investment and may get FDI. In Japan the Tankan but also Industrial Production, Balance of Trade, PMI and Inflation.S Korea, Unemployment and Export Import prices

In Europe; Industrial Production, PMI, Balance of Trade and Inflation in focus. UK Unemployment, Consumer Confidence and Retail Sales.

For the US PMI and Retail sales data along with Industrial and Manufacturing Production, Tic Flows and on Friday the second round of the US Bank Stress Tests likely to be the main focus along with covid numbers are the initial claims data.
